How does the lottery process work?

If there are more applicants than available spaces in a grade, NC state law requires that a lottery is held to fill that grade.

When Carolina Charter Academy’s lotteries are run, applicants in a preference category are placed first in random order, and then all other students are placed in random order by a program. However many applicants can be accommodated by the number of empty slots are placed immediately. Those applicants have 10 days to confirm.  Applicants can also confirm by emailing the school to let us know if they are accepting the seat.  If an applicant has siblings entered into lotteries, those siblings move up the waitlist when the applicant is confirmed.

If applicants decline or fail to confirm within the allotted time, they are removed from the roster and the next applicant moves into the vacant spot and will then have 10 days to confirm.
