Director, Carolina Charter Academy

About the Role

Carolina Charter Academy in Angier, North Carolina (Wake County), a growing new school, is seeking an experienced and energetic leader to serve as Director. Reporting to the school’s Board of Directors, the Director runs the day-to-day operations of the school, creates a safe and supportive learning environment, and abides by the Mission Statement of Carolina Charter Academy. The position calls for strong organizational skills and experience with charter school administration.


Other responsibilities include:

Create a safe and supportive learning environment
Uphold academic and behavioral standards
Create and maintain a dynamic school culture for students, families, and staff
Maintain communication with students and families, as well as the local community
Develop positive and supportive relationships with students in grades K-8
Ensure that all state and locally mandated tests are completed and submitted to the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI)
Create, provide, and implement Continuing Education Units (CEU) and professional development opportunities for teachers
Supervise and evaluate 32 teachers and five administrative staff members
Oversee the school’s enrollment and retention programs
Identify prospective grants and manage the application process
Complete and submit all necessary paperwork required by NCDPI
Manage and maintain the school’s free and reduced lunch program
Oversee and work with the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) instructional framework team to develop a schoolwide MTSS program
Serve as an active member on the executive committee of local parent group, as well as attend the group’s monthly meetings


The ideal candidate will:

Possess prior experience in school leadership role as an administrator/principal
Have experience in a K-8 classroom
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Demonstrate strong managerial skills, including the ability to delegate
Be familiar with Acadia NorthStar charter school services and Powerschool
Understand and execute requirements of North Carolina Department of Instruction
Be able to multi-task and problem solve effectively


Bachelor’s degree required, graduate degree preferred
Possess or willingness to obtain a North Carolina administrative licensure within one year of hire

About Carolina Charter Academy

Carolina Charter Academy opened its doors in August of 2019 and serves students in Wake, Harnett, and Johnston Counties in North Carolina. With a current enrollment of approximately 430 students in grades K-6, the school will add seventh and eighth grades in 2020 and 2021, respectively.

If you have a school bus license for Harnett County Schools/are a school bus driver for Harnett County Schools currently, we would just need a copy of your bus license and cards. If you drive a bus for Wake County Schools, you will need to get a Harnett County bus card.
